Bar Tab Irish Hospitality If you’re looking for a place where you can feel instantly at home, filled with friendly, lively, welcoming patrons and free-flowing beer and spirits, you may want to stop in at Fado Irish Pub to meet Mandy O’ Gorman, an Irish bartender ready to serve up your drink of choice with a smile and some great conversation. T e x t by San dy Lin dse y Ph otos by Chan tal L aw r i e 122 M andy O’Gorman loves to meet interesting people from all walks of life and has the perfect job for it at Fado. “I always hear great stories,” she says. “We have a good craic — Gaelic for fun — in the pub.” O’Gorman started out in an American sports bar 13 years ago, but since she’s originally from Ireland, found herself drawn to Irish pubs. “Fado is one of the few places in town where you’ll find a traditional Irish ambiance and the best Guinness this side of St. James’ Gate,” she says. “Being the ‘Momma Bear’ of the family at Fado, I like to make sure no one is ever thirsty or hungry.” This outlook led to the creation of her now-legendary Orange Beehive drink. Many libations have long stories about how they came to be — but not this one. “I was just having a bit of fun,” she says. But getting creative behind the bar isn’t the only way she likes to express her inner artist. She likes to spend her free time photographing her kids Kellan, 6, and Ava, 3, and dressing up in fashions from all eras. “I also enjoy entertaining, home BBQs and testing my mixology skills with friends,” she says. When it’s time to get back to work, she loves that there’s never a dull moment at Fado. “I had the best laugh watching drunk Irish lads playing tug-of-war with a table on St. Patrick’s Day,” she says. “And I got a kick out of winning ‘Best Halloween Costume’ the first year we opened.” Orange Beehive 1 oz Bushmills Irish Honey 1/4 oz Cointreau Fill with Sprite Serve in highball glass
