Success F l a shback PROUD AS A PEACOCK Once the domain of some of the first settlers in South Florida, The Inn pictured below belonged to grocers Isabella & Charles Peacock, who were encouraged to establish a business in then-primal Coconut Grove. A friendly hall in an area bearing a local tenor not dissimilar to the wild west, The Peacock Inn welcomed many a weary traveler eager to explore our still-untamed region, including some of the city’s most notable (and notorious) early pioneers. Torn down in 1926, the area now known (and beloved) as Peacock Park was bought by the City of Miami and named for the founding family in 1973. We think they’d be happy to know that their land is once again a welcome respite from the pressures of a sometimes still wild Miami; HistoryMiami.org. — RYA N JA R R E LL Before Photo: Courtesy of History Miami; After Photo: Courtesy of Marcelo Araica 58
